Saddle pads, saddle pads and more saddle pads. It seems like there is a never ending sea of saddle pads: Wool, wool-felt, felt, alpaca, gel, memory foam, etc. And then we have correction, built-up, contour, sway-back; don’t even get me started on blanket, pad, thickness of pad, measurements, brands, the options are endless.
If you are new to the equine world and sometimes even if you’ve been around for years, it can be a bit overwhelming as to what the correct pick is for you as there is no “one size fits all” answer.
You have to ask yourself, “Am I resolving a fitting issue with my horse? Am I just looking to upgrade my pad? Am I using the pad for everyday use or competition?” and so on. But that’s at least a starting point to what you may need.
I’m curious to know what you personally look for in pad. Are you the person who has a pretty good idea of what you need? Do you make your decision based on friend’s selections? Do you stay up on the trends the manufactures put out? Do you research online reviews, blogs, and video testimonies? Maybe you are looking for something that’s not even out there yet.
